Woody grew up in Walnut Creek, California〔(Russ Woody bio at Nuldoid.com )〕 In 1979, He graduated from California State University, Chico with a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Speech and Drama.〔(Distinguished Alumni of California State University, Chico )〕

His latest works are: The novel ''Effed Up! Story of a Family.'' The book is loosely autobiographical, about a young man, raised in a dysfunctional family—who discovers the real meaning of family. The Memoir ''Heroic Heart - A Story about Fathers and Sons.'' A story about the year and a half he spent with his father, as his father was struggling with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), as well as his father's relationship with Ted Danson and the cast/crew of Becker. In 2009, Woody wrote his first novel entitled ''The Wheel of Nuldoid'',〔 a book with artwork by Norman Felchle.
